So Share tagged me with the latest meme to hit the blogging world. So here are my answers for all of you and a real post is in the works just need to clean it up and get it posted but that's a lot easier said than done.
Last book read: The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger - Read it in two days and unfortunately understood where the poor girl was coming from but honestly once you read it you don't feel as bad about your job anymore.
Where it came from? Borders while I waited for nightmare traffic to die down which it never did and it still took me 3 hours to go home which was a whole 6.5 miles away, another reason to hate Hell-A
Books read per year: 20-50 - it varies. I can go on a reading kick and then stop suddenly. I usually get the biggest chunk of reading done during my ciggie breaks at work where I am met by odd glances and comments like "You are always reading" which of course are met by my questioning how my reading effects their lives and how it's not such an awkward habit.
Favourite Genre: I tend to favour non-fiction books such as autobiographies but my all time fave subjects are: the history of sex (yes you read that right), serial killers, FBI manuals about aberrant subjects and the odd Brit chick lit book (major guilty pleasure)
Five Favourite Books of All Time:
- I absolutely adored Coronation Street: The Epic Novel How can anyone resist reading a summary of the soap that has entertained the UK for over 40 years. It's a testament to tv culture and the community culture of Britain, especially Northern England where a person can be born and die on the same street without ever venturing outside of the city's limits. You get tragedy, joy, drama and of course humour.
- Fleurs Du Mal - Charles Baudelaire - amazing book of dark poetry. I remember my favourite English teacher in high school giving me this as a graduation present with both the English and French translations. This book has stayed with me since.
- The Encyclopedia of Unusual Sex Practices - Brenda Love - This is THE book that started me exploring the field of sexology. I just happened to be home from school one day and was watching the Joan Rivers show of all things (how do I manage to retain this info is beyond me) and the author was being interviewed and I was intrigued immediately. I made my mother hunt all over town to get me this book just for the name of the graduate school where they taught sexology. The book is okay in the research (not 100% correct on a lot of things but still did you know that some people are turned on by eyeball licking?????)
- The Oresteia - Aeschylus - the excellent trilogy featuring Agamemnon, the Libation Bearers and the Eumenides. My favourite of all the Greek classics. Where else can you get murder, adultery, diatribes, violence and the occult. Not to mention I had the pleasure of not only reading it in English by the original Greek.
- Memoirs of a Geisha - Arthur Golden - This book is just one of the most beautifully written and engaging tomes I have ever read. You never want to put it down but at the same time you never want to finish it because it's such a wonderful story. The author writes in such a way that you can see each scene as it unfolds. I am not sure how well it will translate to the big screen though.
So there you have it.

aha! and i learn even more about my pal catheryn!
