I should never say I am going to do something obviously. Look at that I haven’t updated this blog in almost two months. I will just have to go to the back of the class immediately. I don’t even have that many good reasons to my slacking off over here. So I am sorry….
What have I been up to? Well, let’s see. Some things I forgot to bring up last time I was here. The documentary I worked on a few years ago: The Hidden Art of Hollywood aka Masters of Production won a CINE Golden Eagle Award which we were all ever so excited about. Now to take home one of the jury awards in April. If you missed it the first time last year, the show will be rebroadcast on March 31st on a PBS station near you. This is quite unusual since PBS doesn’t normally repeat these types of shows. Update since I started writing this, Hidden Art of Hollywood will be showing on most PBS stations on the 31st while in Los Angeles it will be aired the first week of April as to avoid any interruptions due to Pledge Week.
Another documentary I worked on and actually starred in (well my hands and the back of my head in the suicide/accidental death scene but that’s neither here nor there since I am credited as being an actress in the closing credits) Olive Thomas: Everybody’s Sweetheart will be making its big screen debut in April at MOMA as well in Amsterdam and hopefully at the LA Film Festival soon as well be for sale to the public via Amazon.
On the more good news kick, I am down to 3 yes count them 3 bosses, one of which is based in Seattle. The new boss situation is working out for the better. So let’s hope it continues since I am trying to last here for a while longer in hopes that when we move to the UK in the next few years I can transfer to one of our UK offices, thus, I can at least work for the same company when we get there just to bring in a paycheck.
As to my impending surgery, well I fired another surgeon after he tried to send me to the ER for my usual pains because he claimed he couldn’t prescribe pain medication. My GP thanked me for not wasting my time and the ER’s time and gave me the pain meds I needed and the name of another doctor to try and after having my consultation appointment with him last Friday, he is the guy who has the pleasure of performing my surgery. Not only was he extremely nice and informative and specializes in endoscopic surgery but he is one of a handful of doctors who actually performs excision surgery instead of the half-assed laser surgery that does not remedy the disease as efficiently. Well the date has been set for March 30th and now I am just dreaming about the idea of leading a normal pain free life is on the horizon or at least a temporary pain free existence. But still I am nervous about it all which I keep telling myself is absolutely normal but still there is a 20% chance of recurrence after all is said and done but at least I will be out of the office for almost two weeks recovering so hopefully I won’t be so out of it that I can’t knit.
On the social front, thanks to the heavy rains and the hellish traffic in Hell A (yes 7 miles can now take 3 hours to travel, I kid you not) I haven’t made it to Knit Night in ages and more homes slid down Laurel Canyon which is now closed indefinitely which of course is the only way for me to get to the shop (update the canyon is open but down to one lane of traffic and as it now takes me an hour to three hours to get home a whole 6.5 mile trek, I just can’t face sitting in any more traffic). Errrr….. Did go to the Staples Center one Saturday night to see Duran Duran Wow did I feel old. They were amazing but the idea that they had giveaways in Parents Magazine just proved that I am not 18 any more. But nonetheless it was a blast.
For my birthday, I managed to score tickets to the Eddie Izzard show at the Coronet Theatre in West Hollywood. Tres Excited about this as I managed to snag 4 tickets within 3 minutes of them going on sale and being sold out. I got 2 tickets for Julia and her boyfriend since her birthday is at the end of the month and Eddie is her god as well as she just landed an awesome job at a studio so a double whammy of congrats on the job and birthday celebrations. Well we thought that the show would be in the actual theatre. Boy, were we wrong. After standing in line for over 2 hours wondering why we couldn’t just get our tickets and then come back, we learned that the performance was in one of the rehearsal stages that only holds about 50 people. We lucked out and got in the second row and were 10 feet away from Eddie during the whole performance. You couldn’t ask for a better night out.
The rest of the weekend was spent on a major shopping trip around LA – the garment district Friday, a flea market in Santa Monica Saturday and of course a stop at a yarn shop for where I really overdid it by buying the Rowan magazine Issue 37 for the lovely Butterfly vest pattern and the Kid Silk Haze to make it. But boy is that one hell of an undertaking I am going to attempt.
Well I am going to save the knitting update for another day since I need to take more photos first..
Ciao for now
